Spring/early Summer 2011

Iain is honoured to have had several pieces purchased for the special collection at The University of St Andrews, and was also afforded the accolade of being added to the prestigious collection of The Henry Gallery at The University of Washington, Seattle. The 2011 Royal Scottish Academy's Annual 185th RSA exhibition, fatures Iain as Invited Artist, alongside Christine Borland, Ken Currie, and Will MacLean. Iain's recent 'Bothy', series and two video pieces are on show, along with a series of seascapes and new work from Wester Ross. The exhibition runs from April 30th - June 8th. Details here.

Both of the video pieces in the RSA feature the stunning work of UK sound artist Keith Berry.

Ahead of their next Operating System software update, US computer giants Apple approached Iain about using one of his images as a screensaver on a 5 year worldwide deal. Watch this space!

Commercially Iain is busy as ever, working on the major commission to document the FNP for The Scottish Government and the NHS. This project has branched out across Scotland, and Iain is also now to making video work as part of his commission.

Other projects include a separate Early Years photo library commission, also for the Scottish Government agency NHS Health Scotland. With several private portrait commissions and writing work lined up, it looks a busy summer and autumn ahead.

Winter 2010/the New Year

Not always a traditionally busy time of year but the end of 2010 and start of 2011 have seen a very packed diary. Two major NHS Health Scotland and Scottish Government commissions will keep Iain busy well into the summer this year, as will the Photography Course he has been involved in developing for the Interactive Design Institute.

Iain is also busy re-editing film work for exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy later in the year, where he is honoured to be an Invited Artist for the Annual 185th RSA exhibition. Two video pieces and specially selected new work will be on show.

Finally, congratulations to Birlinn Publishing and author Catriona MacDonald, whose 'Whaur Extremes Meet' won the 201o Saltire Society Scottish History Book of the Year. The book jacket was beautifully designed by Jim Hutcheson and featured Iain's work from 58º North on the cover.

Autumn 2010

Iain made good use of the beautiful autumn light and fine conditions to make several trips to the Highlands and Wester Ross to make further progress on two new bodies of landscape work, and his Highland Bothy Elegy. Work in progress can be found on his blog. Early snow also provided ideal conditions for work on the White Album.

Spring/Summer 2010

March saw Iain contribute a piece from BOTHY to PHOTORELIEF; A PICTURE SAVES A THOUSAND LIVES, an ambitious Exhibition, Book & Auction fund-raiser for Haiti, organised by John Gettings of Milk Gallery, New York. The total raised to date for Rose Charities is an impressive $75,000.

Spring is the Annual Report time of year, and this year Iain was delighted to be asked to produce all the portrait and location photography for AG BARR soft drinks manufacturers. They are probably best known as producers of Scotland's other National Beverage, their world famous Irn Bru.

Iain has been busy making new work for a group show, BLOW UP, at G Gibson Gallery in Seattle to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St. Helen's. Watch out for the exhibition in the summer.

Promoting IANSA's anti-gun campaign for the 2010 World Cup, Iain spent a day with Hibernian FC to produce to produce a portrait of Sol Bamba in the Vivienne Westwood designed 'DON'T SHOOT' shirt.

New Year 2010

Iain has been in Shetland, walking and making new pieces for BOTHY. A new piece, 'West Burrafirth' was included in his solo exhibition, BOTHY; The Walk Out at Da Gadderie, the beautiful gallery space in the stunning new Shetland Museum & Archive, Lerwick. The show runs from January 18th - February 15th.

The portrait work commissioned towards the end of 2009 by Whitespace for Investors In People is now online on their new website.

Birlinn Books published Whaur Extremes Meet by Catriona M MacDonald, using Iain's 'Reflect' from 58º North as the cover piece. Design by Jim Hutchison.

 

Summer 09

Iain is heavily involved in making work for his new landscape project, BOTHY. This involves ever increasing amounts of travel - and walking ! More news on this in the Autumn. Watch out for work in progress appearing on Iain's new blog.

Architectural and landscape work by Iain for the Coodham Estate in Ayrshire can be viewed on their new website and all accompanying promotional literature.

Iain has been commissioned to work through 2009/10 to create a photo library for Berryknowes Learning Disability Resource Centre in Glasgow.

 

Spring 09

Iain is currently exhibiting work from DARKEDEN in '25 Years of Photography - Celebrating the Anniversary of the National Collection' at The National Gallery of Scotland Feb 14 - April 19 2009

Iain's portraits for The Scottish Government's Self Directed Support programme for carers is completed for their new website by Whitespace.

Various Design chief Mick Dean is the driving force behind Iains' 2009 re-brand. His gentle guiding hand is felt everywhere, from design concept and new identity, through to print. Many thanks Mick !

Scotland's Theatre Workshop announces a vibrant new website by Navy Blue, photography by Iain.

Following the January book launch, the NHS Health Scotland/Pregnancy Guide Book featuring 2 years worth of Iain's photography is now also online.
